Journeys with rail replacement

SJ / Journeys with rail replacement

In a disruption situation where the train is not running, we will provide rail replacement buses. On journeys with replacement buses, other rules may apply.

Wheelchair users can travel with us even when there is a replacement bus service.

Most buses have one space for a wheelchair (maximum dimensions 70 x 120 cm), but we cannot guarantee that there will be space for everyone. In some cases, the wheelchair may have to be transported in the bus’ luggage compartment. Therefore, we recommend booking in advance through our customer service.

On departures where the bus does not have space for a wheelchair and a wheelchair ramp is needed, we will assist you in arranging alternative transport, provided that you have booked in advance through our customer service.

Please contact our Customer Service to request a child seat suitable for your child on journeys where part of the route is operated by replacement bus.

All buses used as alternative transport during disruptions comply with the regulations for securing children on buses, in accordance with the requirements of the Norwegian Public Roads Administration (“Statens Vegvesen”).

For buses registered after 2012, there is no legal requirement to provide child safety equipment for children under 3 years old. Most of our buses do have child seats available, but we cannot guarantee safety equipment for children under 3. Children over 3 years old must use the standard seat belts in an appropriate manner.

To ensure that we can provide the correct child seat, we ask that you book your journey in advance through our customer service. This allows us to make sure that you and your child can travel safely, whether by bus or other alternative transport.

If you need to travel without having booked in advance, you should bring your own suitable booster seat or child car seat.

If you have purchased a ticket with us and reserved a space for a stroller, you are entitled to bring your stroller along also when rail replacement buses operate the whole or parts of your journey. The stroller must be foldable and will be placed in the bus’ storage compartment.

On those cases where you have not reserved a space for your stroller, you will not be guaranteed a space for your stroller on the rail replacement bus.

On journeys where seat reservations are available, you can reserve a space for your bicycle (bicycle spaces are limited). In these cases, your bicycle is guaranteed a place on rail replacement buses.

On routes without seat reservations, it is up to the bus driver to decide whether there is space for your bicycle in the luggage compartment

Unfortunately, animals are not allowed on most replacement bus services.

We do not have a dedicated transport area suitable for animals on the bus, and out of consideration for other passengers, we cannot guarantee that your pet can travel with you.

Exceptions

The exception is service dogs and guide dogs for the visually impaired. These dogs are specially trained to assist people with disabilities, and their presence is essential for the owner to carry out daily tasks safely and independently.

The dog must wear a harness or vest. The same applies to dogs registered with the Norwegian Rescue Dogs Association.
