The refurbishment of the first locomotive at Norske tog has now been completed. The locomotive is currently awaiting the necessary approval from the Norwegian Railway Authority before it can be handed over to SJ Norge.
The locomotive, which was originally scheduled to be delivered to SJ Norge in early 2026, has now been fully rebuilt and the approval application is being processed by the Norwegian Railway Authority. Once the required authorization has been granted, the locomotive will be delivered to SJ Norge.
From the time of delivery by Norske tog, it will take approximately two months before SJ Norge can begin operating overnight services. This is due to activities such as locomotive testing, driver training and workforce planning. As a result, overnight train services on the Nordland Line are not expected to resume before mid-January 2027.
“We know that many of our customers were looking forward to the return of the overnight train service this autumn. Due to delays in the delivery of the locomotive from Norske tog to SJ Norge, it will not be ready for overnight operations until January 2027 at the earliest,” says Randi Ness, Director of Communications and Marketing at SJ Norge.
SJ Norge will put tickets on sale as soon as the final start date has been confirmed.
