We do have discounted rates for our travelers, and their travel companions. If you do not fulfill the requirements for a discounted rate, you may purchase a regular “Adult” ticket.
Children
Children under the age of 6 travel with SJ Nord for free as long as they accompany an adult traveling with a Standard- ticket. You must however book a ticket for children 0-5 years so that the child gets assigned a seat. When a child is travelling with an adult with a Premium ticket, there will be an additional charge of NOK 199,- which represents the category upgrade.
Children between the ages of 6 and 17 years get a 50% discount on a Standard Refundable ticket and a 25% discount on a Premium Refundable ticket. Our Premium Pluss carriages do not have a children discount.
On certain departures you may purchase tickets on the Family carriage, which are specially designed for passengers travelling with small children.
Students
If you are a full-time student, an apprentice or a school student under the age of 30, you may be entitled to a student discount. The discount is 25% off a Standard Refundable ticket.
When travelling with a student ticket, you must be able to prove that you are a student upon request. You can prove this by showing your student ID and proof that you either are an apprentice or that you have paid the school semester fee. We do accept all Norwegian student IDs, as well as ISIC IDs for international students, both physical and digital.
Senior
Senior rates equal a 50% discount on a Standard Refundable ticket, with a minimum price of NOK 299,- for a Premium ticket. The senior discount applies to:
- Everyone who is 67 years old or older
- Passengers with a Norwegian disability card (‘honnørkort’) issued by Nav
- Disabled refugees with a Norwegian disability card (‘honnørkort’) issued by Nav
- Passengers who receive a long-term disability check consisting of at least 50% disability from a public instance in a country within the EEA other than Norway, and who have a disability card (‘honnørkort’) issued by Nav
- Blind or visually impaired passengers with proof from the Norwegian Blind Association
- Deaf-blind passengers with a valid ID from the The Norwegian Resource System for the Deaf-blind (green card). Companions for a deaf-blind passenger travel for free
- Companions for a passenger traveling with an accompanying certificate can travel with a senior ticket.
- Spouses or registered partners who travel with someone entitled to a senior discount can also benefit from a senior discount.
You must be able to show proof that you can travel with a senior discount upon request by our staff.
Military recruits
This discount applies for military recruits, conscripts and draftees serving for the Norwegian Armed Forces, which include:
- Soldiers serving in the compulsory military service.
- Journeys to and from the military service (attendance and dismissal)
- Journeys to and from muster
- Military apprentices on their first and second year of education
- Journeys to and from missions with the Norwegian Home Guard
- Students attending the Norwegian Defense University College
The discount applies both for those traveling in uniform and civilian clothing, and applies only for Norwegian citizens with connections to the Norwegian Armed Forces.
This category gets a 90% discount off a Standard Refundable ticket, with a minimum price of NOK 46,-.
Upon ticket control you must be able to provide evidence that you are entitled to this discount, by wither showing the summon letter, student admission letter or the Norwegian Armed Forces blue ID-card. .
