Bus replacement for train on the Nordland railway

SJ Norge is left with only two locomotives again.

SJ Norge is once again down to just two locomotives after a train traveling from Trondheim to Bodø struck a rock.

On the afternoon of Thursday, February 27th, a train hit a rock inside a tunnel between Skonseng and Ørtfjellet, causing damage to the locomotive. As a result, SJ Norge now has only two locomotives available to operate the Nordland railway.

SJ Norge will be able to run daytime trains between Trondheim and Bodø in both directions until Sunday, March 2nd, by operating locomotives and carriages without maintenance breaks. However, this solution is only viable for a few days. From Monday, March 3rd, one of the locomotives must go in for servicing in Trondheim. At that point, SJ Norge will operate trains between Trondheim and Mo i Rana, with bus replacements for trains between Mo i Rana and Bodø.

The bus replacement will operate up to and including Thursday March 20th. From Friday March 21st we expect to drive the train all the way between Trondheim and Bodø again.

– We deeply regret that our customers are once again affected by locomotive shortages on the Nordland Line. The situation was already critical and severe, and once again, we see how vulnerable the Nordland Line is, both in terms of locomotive shortages and infrastructure, says Randi Ness, Director of Communications and Marketing at SJ Norge.

Our customer service center will be in touch with affected passengers as soon as possible.
